“I am the risen one who shines upon you always. You worship a living Deity, not some idolatrous, man-man image. Your relationship with Me is meant to be vibrant and challenging, as I invade more and more areas of your life. Do not fear change, for I am making you a new creation, with old things passing away and new things continually on the horizon. When you cling to old ways and sameness, you resist my work within within you. I want you to embrace all that I am doing in your life, finding your security in Me alone. It is easy to make an idol of routine, finding security within the boundaries you build around your life. Although each day contains twenty-four hours, every single one presents a unique set of circumstances. Don’t try to force-fit today into yesterday’s mold. Instead, ask Me to open your eyes so you can find all I have prepared for you in this precious day of Life.” ~ Jesus Calling.
Don’t we all struggle with this to some degree? Predictability in life can be a comfort. It takes away all risk and vulnerability because we know what to expect. You can mentally prepare yourself for the challenge ahead because you know what’s coming. It’s safe. But when everything is the same and we don’t allow God to change our hearts, our routine or our circumstances, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking we are our own Savior. When everything is contained within our happy little box of life, we have all the control. But then there is no need for a Savior. There is no room left for faith. For dependency. For God.
Change IS hard, no one is denying that. It requires a lot of vulnerability and you can get hurt in the process. But do you trust that God is good? Do you believe that He is asking you to step out in vulnerability to trust Him and allow change to happen in your heart? When God asks us to trust Him in the change, our flesh wants to stomp our foot and turn our back and tell Him we know what’s better. So we walk away from the invitation He’s giving us. But when we do surrender to the change God has for us, oh it is a beautiful thing! And we see how not only does it impact us, but the people we do life with.
Jesus says, “I am making you a new creation, with old things passing away and new things continually on the horizon (2 Corinthians 5:17).” God knows how much you can handle. He loves you so much and wants you to see the world the way He does, and so He uses our circumstances to provoke change in our hearts. We just need to surrender our control, our fears, our doubts, our distrust, to allow that change to happen! Every time you surrender another little piece of your life, another struggle you face, God is creating something new in you. Something beautiful! He is teaching us to trust Him more and more. And isn’t He trustworthy?
He is so much more powerful than our minds can comprehend. He is not a man-made image, He is a living Deity. “When you cling to old ways and sameness, you resist my work within within you. I want you to embrace all that I am doing in your life, finding your security in Me alone.” What is God asking you to trust Him with? What change is He provoking in your life that scares you? Talk to Him about it! Pray over it, and invite some trustworthy friends into the conversation with you, to be praying for you and with you. “It is because of the Lord’s loving-kindness that we are not destroyed for His love never ends. It is new every morning. He is so very faithful. (Lamentations 3:22-23)”
